Background

Function
Mesothelin is a cell surface glycoprotein that is normally expressed at low levels on mesothelial cells. Mesothelin is overexpressed in several types of cancers, including mesothelioma, ovarian cancer, and pancreatic cancer. Mesothelin can interact with other molecules such as megakaryocyte potentiating factor (MPF) and play roles in cell adhesion, migration and signal transduction. Mesothelin is an important target for cancer immunotherapy and diagnosis due to its differential expression in cancer cells[1][2][3].

Expression
Tissue_specificity:It is expressed in the lungs. It is expressed at low levels in the heart, placenta, and kidneys. It is expressed in mesothelial cells. It is highly expressed (protein level) in mesothelioma, ovarian cancer, and certain squamous cell carcinomas. -
