In Vitro

Puupehenone is the major metabolite isolated from two unreported Hawaiian sponges of the genus *Hyrtios*, and its structure is confirmed by comparison of NMR spectra with a standard reference substance^[1].
Puupehenone exhibits cytotoxicity against P388 mouse leukemia cells, A-549 human lung cancer cells, HCT-8 human colon cancer cells, and MCF-7 human breast cancer cells in vitro^[2].
Puupehenone inhibits the growth of Candida albicans in vitro, with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 3 μg/mL^[2].
Puupehenone (compound 1) (serial dilution; 3 days) weakly inhibits the growth of bovine aortic endothelial cells and various human tumor cell lines, with IC₅₀ values ranging from 5 μM to >15 μM, and shows no selectivity for endothelial cells^[3].
