Sarafotoxin S6d

Sarafotoxin S6d (STX-b) is a polypeptide toxin isolated from the venom of the Israeli sand boa constrictor. Sarafotoxin S6d induces multiple electrocardiogram (ECG) changes including myocardial ischemia and hyperkalemia. Sarafotoxin S6d induces strong extracellular calcium-dependent vasoconstriction in rat aorta and exhibits positive inotropic effects in rat atria. Sarafotoxin S6d can be used in the study of cardiovascular diseases.

Sarafotoxin S6d (0.3, 1.0, 3.0 and 5.0 nmol/kg; i.v.) can produce a constant pressure effect and a short pulse pressure increase at 0.3-3.0 nmol/kg. However, at 5.0 nmol/kg, Sarafotoxin S6d can cause a rapid drop in blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing rate after an initial increase, leading to the deaths of most mice within 10 minutes^[1].
Sarafotoxin S6d (5.0 nmol/kg; i.v.) increases K⁺ levels by 159% significantly. Additionally, plasma enzymes (LDH, CPK), IP, and glucose levels are also significantly elevated. LDH increases by 60%, CPK by 91%, IP by 137%, and glucose by 80%^[1].
