Phenelzine sulfate inhibits GABA transaminase and primary amine oxidase (PrAO), and sequester reactive aldehydes. Phenelzine sulfate also inhibits LSD1 (Ki: 5.6 μM) and suppresses oxidative stress and lipogenesis. Phenelzine sulfate elevates neurotransmitters (serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine). Phenelzine sulfate is studied in neurological, metabolic and cancer diseases for depression and anxiety disorders, stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, inflammatory pain, obesity and prostate cancer .

Heneicosapentaenoic Acid (HPA) is a 21:5 omega-3 fatty acid found in trace amounts in the green alga B. pennata and in fish oils. Its chemical composition is similar to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), except that a carbon is extended at the carboxy terminus, placing the first double bond at the δ6 position. HPA can be used to study the importance of double bond position in omega-3 fatty acids. It incorporates phospholipids and triacylglycerols in vivo with the same efficiency as EPA and docosahexaenoic acid, and exhibits a strong inhibitory effect on the synthesis of arachidonic acid from linoleic acid. HPA is a poor substrate for prostaglandin H synthase (PGHS) (cyclooxygenase) and 5-lipoxygenase, but retains the ability to rapidly inactivate PGHS.

Chinese Baijiu is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages in the world, with a history of over 2,000 years. It can be classified into 12 aroma types based on its fragrance and flavor characteristics. The specific flavor profile of Baijiu is determined by the composition and concentration of certain compounds. These trace compounds, present in low concentrations yet rich in esters, alcohols, acids, lactones, aldehydes, ketones, acetals, alkenes, and others, significantly influence the flavor of Baijiu. Additionally, some active components in Baijiu possess antioxidant properties, and moderate consumption may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, dementia, and insulin resistance. Therefore, studying the chemical composition of Baijiu is crucial for promoting its fermentation process and enhancing its flavor and quality.

MCE has compiled included 670 Chinese Baijiu components, which can be used for drug development, Baijiu fermentation, and research related to Baijiu flavor and aroma.

Environmental pollution refers to the process where human activities release harmful chemicals or energy (such as industrial waste, pesticides, and plastic particles) into the natural environment at a rate that exceeds the ecosystem's capacity for self-purification, leading to deterioration in the composition or state of the atmosphere, water bodies, and soil. Environmental pollution is not only a direct threat to biodiversity but also ultimately impacts human health through the bioaccumulation effect of the food chain. Therefore, the accurate identification and dynamic monitoring of pollutants constitute the scientific cornerstone for formulating environmental policies, assessing ecological risks, and promoting green chemistry transformation.

MCE features a collection of 301 environmental pollutants, covering categories such as air pollutants, water pollutants, and pesticides, for research in the field of environmental chemistry.

Polysaccharides are long chains of carbohydrate molecules, consisting of multiple smaller monosaccharides. Polysaccharides are found mainly in natural sources such as plants, microorganisms, algae and animals. Polysaccharides have a large number of active functional groups, different chemical compositions and different molecular weight ranges, which determines their diversity in nature and structure. Also in the field of medical research, polysaccharides act as a class of functional compounds and thus play a role. For example, nanocarrier construction, immunomodulation and vaccine development, new strategies for antitumor therapy, tissue regeneration engineering applications and disease diagnosis. With the advancement of glycomics and synthetic biotechnology, human beings are moving from “knowing polysaccharides” to “designing polysaccharides”, which will provide innovative solutions for materials science, precision medicine and sustainable development.

MCE offers 70 polysaccharides that can be used in biomedical studies.

Liposomes are spherical or multilayered spherical vesicles formed by the self-assembly of diacyl chain phospholipids (lipid bilayers) in aqueous solutions, which can be made from natural or synthetic phospholipids and exhibit good biocompatibility and low toxicity. They can serve as delivery carriers for various bioactive substances (such as drugs, proteins, nucleic acids, etc.) and are widely used in biomedical and chemical research. The main advantages of liposomes include 1) Protective effect: Their bilayer structure can protect encapsulated molecules from enzymatic degradation, oxidation, and other influences, extending stability and activity; 2) Active targeting: Surface modifications enable active targeting, enhancing the concentration of drugs or molecules in specific tissues or cells; 3) Customizability: The composition and structure of liposomes can be adjusted according to needs, such as altering phospholipid types or adding targeting ligands. These properties make liposomes highly valuable in developing novel drug delivery systems, serving as nucleic acid carriers for gene transfection, studying cellular uptake mechanisms and drug release kinetics, as well as developing functional food additives to improve the bioavailability of nutritional components.

MCE contains 192 liposome compounds, which is a good tool for drug delivery-related studies.

Mongolian medicine refers to drugs used for disease prevention and treatment under the guidance of Mongolian medical theory. Originating from the vast grasslands and desert regions of northern China, Mongolian medicine developed under specific natural conditions and a nomadic lifestyle, forming a unique theoretical system and treatment methods. It emphasizes the balance between the human body and the natural environment and has demonstrated distinct efficacy in treating digestive system diseases, rheumatism, skin diseases, and various chronic conditions. For example, Mongolian medicine often uses Chinese red date for palpitations and angina pectoris, sea buckthorn to relieve coughs, reduce phlegm, promote blood circulation, and remove blood stasis, and scabious to clear lung heat and treat liver heat diseases. The application of these characteristic Mongolian medicines embodies the profound wisdom of Mongolian medical practice.

With the advancement of modern technology, research on Mongolian medicine continues to deepen. Systematic studies on the chemical composition and pharmacological effects of Mongolian medicines can provide new ideas and methods for modern drug development.

MCE has collected 2,386 characteristic natural products derived from Mongolian medicines, with 400+ plant sources of Mongolian medicine.
