Ethylhexylglycerin
Based on 1 Customer Validation
Ethylhexylglycerin is an antibacterial agent. Ethylhexylglycerin can induce allergic contact dermatitis. Ethylhexylglycerin inhibits the growth of various bacteria, disrupts the integrity of bacterial cell membranes, and causes proton leakage, reduced ATP levels, morphological abnormalities, and DNA aggregation. Ethylhexylglycerin serves as a skin conditioning agent, deodorant active ingredient, and preservative synergist. Ethylhexylglycerin is applicable to research related to contact dermatitis and bacterial infections.

Biological Activity
Ethylhexylglycerin (0.2% V/V; 48 h) completely inhibits the growth of all Stenotrophomonas maltophilia strains, all Acinetobacter strains, Staphylococcus epidermidis EML 1783, Staphylococcus hominis EML 1785, and 10 out of 11 strains of the Burkholderia cepacia complex. However, all Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Burkholderia graminis and Staphylococcus hominis EML 1784 strains are able to grow, with strain-dependent variations in their growth rates, and in most cases, the environmental carrying capacity is significantly reduced[2].
Ethylhexylglycerin (0.075-0.15%; 30 min-24 h) exhibits limited bactericidal activity against E. coli ATCC 11229; after 24 h of exposure, a maximum survival reduction of approximately 3.5 log is observed at concentrations of 0.125% and 0.15%, while no reduction in survival is detected after 30 min of exposure at the 0.075% concentration[3].
Ethylhexylglycerin (0.075-0.15%; 30 min-24 h) disrupts the membrane integrity of E. coli ATCC 11229, induces DNA leakage, but does not reduce cell viability, and exhibits membrane permeabilizing activity[3].
Ethylhexylglycerin (0.075%; 3 h-24 h) disrupts the membrane integrity of E. coli ATCC 11229 upon prolonged exposure, with 10%-50% of cells permeabilized by propidium iodide after 24 h of treatment[3].
Ethylhexylglycerin (0.075%; 5 min-24 h) induces rapid proton leakage in E. coli ATCC 11229, but the leakage level gradually decreases within 24 h as cells repair membrane damage[3].
Ethylhexylglycerin (0.075-0.15%; 5 min-24 h) reduces ATP levels in E. coli ATCC 11229; ATP levels decrease rapidly in the absence of glucose and more slowly in the presence of glucose, indicating that it temporarily disrupts energy metabolism[3].
Exposure to Ethylhexylglycerin (0.075-0.125%; 24 h) at the lethal concentration (0.125%) for 24 h induces severe morphological distortion and nucleoid condensation in *E. coli* ATCC 11229, while exposure at the sublethal concentration (0.075%) only causes mild surface roughness and slight changes in nucleoid morphology[3].
