trans-Glutaconic acid (1-10 mM; 24 h) weakly reduces viability of primary murine cerebral neocortical neurons, causing a 14% reduction at 1 mM and a 23-29% reduction at 10 mM after 24 h, with partial protection against toxicity provided by 100 μM APV[1].
trans-Glutaconic acid (10 mM) does not activate or synergize with glutamate to activate NR1/NR2A or NR1/NR2B NMDA receptor subunits expressed in Xenopus oocytes[1].
