Leupeptin acid
Leupeptin acid is a peptide byproduct present in the fermentation product of Streptomyces roseus MA839-A1, and also an intermediate in leupeptin biosynthesis. Leupeptin acid serves as a substrate for leupeptin acid reductase to generate Leupeptin (HY-18234).

Actividad biológica
Leupeptin acid is reduced to Leupeptin (HY-18234) by solubilized leupeptin acid reductase from Streptomyces roseus MA839-A1 in an ATP- and NADPH-dependent manner; the enzyme has Km values of 4.2 × 10-5 M for ATP and 1.3 × 10-6 M for NADPH, and is strongly suppressed by leupeptin and antipain rather than elastatinal[2].
Leupeptin acid is biosynthesized as an intermediate to form leupeptin by the combined leucine acyltransferase and leupeptin acid synthetase-reductase complex from Streptomyces roseus MA839-A1 using acetyl-CoA, L-leucine (HY-N0486) and L-arginine (HY-N0455) as substrates[2].
