Biological Activity
Stable heavy isotopes of hydrogen, carbon, and other elements have been incorporated into drug molecules, largely as tracers for quantitation during the drug development process. Deuteration has gained attention because of its potential to affect the pharmacokinetic and metabolic profiles of drugs[1].
Irinotecan hydrochloride is a topoisomerase I inhibitor. Irinotecan inhibits the growth of LoVo and HT-29 cells, with IC50s of 15.8 ± 5.1 and 5.17 ± 1.4 μM, respectively, and induces similar amounts of cleavable complexes in both in LoVo and HT-29 cells[3]. Irinotecan suppresses the proliferation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC), with an IC50 of 1.3 μM[4].
