Biological Activity
DL-Proline crystallizes in a zwitterionic, monoclinic (P21/c) form with a C2-Cγ-endo pyrrolidine ring conformation, forming chains via classical N-H···O hydrogen bonds and sheets via non-classical hydrogen bonds, with distinct packing compared to its monohydrated form[1].
DL-Proline exists as a stable zwitterionic form in a continuum electrostatic environment (mimicking crystal conditions) with nearly isoenergetic endo and exo pyrrolidine ring conformers, while gas phase calculations favor a neutral form with a slight preference for the endo conformer[1].
