Amonafide dihydrochloride can inhibit the binding of Topo II to DNA, thereby preventing the synthesis of DNA and RNA. Amonafide dihydrochloride maintains cytotoxic activity in the presence of P-glycoprotein-mediated multidrug resistance (MDR) .
