Thiazolylalanine is a synthetic non-protein amino acid containing a thiazole heterocycle. Thiazolylalanine exhibits dual activities of stimulating protein synthesis and inducing protein degradation in rat reticulocytes, but exerts no effects on protein metabolism or the thermolability of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase in hepatoma cells. Thiazolylalanine can serve as the N-terminal component of tripeptide ligands for the synthesis of various organometallic complexes such as gold, mercury, CyRu (II) Cl2, and Cp*Rh (III) Cl2. Thiazolylalanine finds wide application in the research of breast cancer and other related diseases.

Thiazolylalanine (2 mM; 3-16 h) has no effect on protein synthesis, protein degradation, or phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase heat lability in Reuber H35 hepatoma cells when tested at 2 mM[1].
Thiazolylalanine (50 μM)-derived bis(NHC) Au(I) complex 1A is internalized into MCF7 breast cancer cells and disrupts actin filament structure[2].
Thiazolylalanine (50 μM; 48 h)-derived bis(NHC) Au(I) complex 1A induces caspase-3-mediated programmed cell death in MCF7 breast cancer cells via a mitochondrial pathway, as evidenced by positive TUNEL staining, altered apoptotic marker expression, and reduced anti-apoptotic protein levels[2].
