Deoxaphomin is a cytochalasin. Deoxaphomin inhibits Actin filament elongation and reduces the viscosity of polymerized actin filaments. Deoxaphomin induces rounding of fibroblasts, contraction of actin cables, formation of actin-containing hairy structures, and formation of actin-containing cytoplasmic rodlets in fibroblasts. Deoxaphomin inhibits membrane ruffling in fibroblasts and capping in lymphocytes.

Description

Deoxaphomin is a cytochalasin. Deoxaphomin inhibits Actin filament elongation and reduces the viscosity of polymerized actin filaments. Deoxaphomin induces rounding of fibroblasts, contraction of actin cables, formation of actin-containing hairy structures, and formation of actin-containing cytoplasmic rodlets in fibroblasts. Deoxaphomin inhibits membrane ruffling in fibroblasts and capping in lymphocytes[1].

In Vitro

Deoxaphomin (2-20 μM; 1 h) induces cell rounding in mouse fibroblast-like C3H cells within 1 hour at the concentration of 20 μM, while no such effect is observed at 2 μM[1].
Deoxaphomin (0.2-2 μM; 10 min) inhibits membrane ruffling in mouse fibroblast C3H cells at a concentration of 2 μM after 10 min of incubation, while no such effect is observed at 0.2 μM[1].
Deoxaphomin induces actin filament contraction and the formation of actin-containing hair-like structures in mouse fibroblast C3H cells[1].
Pretreatment with Deoxaphomin (20 μM) for 10 min inhibits the capping response of mouse splenic lymphocytes by 70%[1].
Deoxaphomin (20 μM) reduces the specific viscosity of purified polymerized rabbit skeletal muscle actin filaments by 12%[1].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
