GFOGER peptide is an artificially synthesized collagen-mimetic sequence. GFOGER peptide acts as a ligand for α2β1, α11β1 and α1β1 integrins, thereby supporting integrin-mediated cell adhesion to collagen. GFOGER peptide triggers signaling pathways mediated by the α2β1 integrin receptor and upregulates osteoblast differentiation. GFOGER peptide accelerates and enhances bone formation at sites of refractory femoral defects. GFOGER peptide can be passively adsorbed onto polymer scaffolds for cell-free/growth factor-free bone formation. GFOGER peptide is used in biomaterials such as hydrogels and 3D bioinks for tissue engineering research including bone formation.

GFOGER peptide (20 μg/mL; overnight at 4°C coating, 1 h binding) is bound with high affinity by recombinant human integrin α11 I domain in a Mg2+-dependent solid-phase binding assay[2].
GFOGER peptide (500 μM; 8-10 days, 24 h, 72 h) inhibits 4 mM Pi-induced calcification in MOVAS-1 cells by 66%, does not reduce cell viability, normalizes Pi-induced upregulation of osteogenic marker genes (Runx2, MGP, OCN, TNAP) after 8 days, and normalizes SMPD3 gene expression after 8 days of treatment[3].
GFOGER peptide (500 μM; 14 days) inhibits 4 mM Pi-induced calcification in primary human VSMCs by 58%[3].
GFOGER peptide (500 μM; 10 days) modifies the protein content of 4 mM Pi-treated MOVAS-1 cell-derived EVs, normalizing the expression of most Pi-altered proteins involved in vascular calcification[3].

Showed no significant effect on bone formation at SA/V ratios of 2.4 or 1.7 mm-1.
Showed no significant difference in maximum torsional strength, stiffness, and work to failure compared to uncoated scaffold groups.
