Definition:

Epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a cellular process during which epithelial cells acquire mesenchymal phenotypes and behaviour ( lose cell polarity and cell–cell adhesion, and gain migratory and invasive properties) , thereby following the downregulation of epithelial features.
