Definition:

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2α (eIF2α) mediates EIF2S1-independent translation during cellular stress and viral infection. eIF2α catalyzes the formation of puromycin-sensitive 80 S preinitiation complexes and the poly(U)-directed synthesis of polyphenylalanine.
