Definition:

Rickettsialpox is an infectious disease caused by Rickettsia akari, an intracellular gram-negative bacteria, and transmitted by the house mouse mite, Liponyssoides sanguineus. It was initially described in 1946 in New York City and has been reported, mostly in urban environments in the United States, South Africa, Korea, and parts of Russia.
