Mdl 28815 blocks cholesterol biosynthesis in HepG2 cells primarily by inhibiting Sterol-delta 14-reductase (and possibly Sterol-delta 8-ene isomerase), rather than 2,3-oxidosqualene cyclase^[1].
Mdl 28815 (Compound 2b) inhibits sterol Δ¹⁴-reductase in HepG2 cells with an IC₅₀ of 0.07 μM, and also inhibits OSC^[2] in HepG2 cells.
