Kalopanaxsaponin H is an hederagenin glycoside (saponin) with no hypoglycemic activity upon intraperitoneal injection. Kalopanaxsaponin H can be metabolized by human intestinal bacteria into Kalopanaxsaponin I, Kalopanaxsaponin A, hederagenin 3-O-α-L-arabinopyranoside and hederagenin, among which Kalopanaxsaponin I and hederagenin are the main metabolites. Kalopanaxsaponin H is isolated from the stem bark of Kalopanax pictus and is used in diabetes-related research.

Description

Kalopanaxsaponin H is an hederagenin glycoside (saponin) with no hypoglycemic activity upon intraperitoneal injection. Kalopanaxsaponin H can be metabolized by human intestinal bacteria into Kalopanaxsaponin I, Kalopanaxsaponin A, hederagenin 3-O-α-L-arabinopyranoside and hederagenin, among which Kalopanaxsaponin I and hederagenin are the main metabolites. Kalopanaxsaponin H is isolated from the stem bark of Kalopanax pictus and is used in diabetes-related research[1].

In Vitro

Kalopanaxsaponin H (0.4 mg/mL; 6-36 h) is metabolized by human fecal intestinal bacteria primarily to kalopanaxsaponin I and hederagenin, with additional minor metabolites kalopanaxsaponin A and hederagenin 3-O-α-L-arabinopyranoside, over incubation periods of 6 to 36 h at 37°C[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

Kalopanaxsaponin H (25 mg/kg; i.p.; daily; 3 days) shows no antidiabetic activity in streptozotocin-induced diabetic Sprague-Dawley rats, with serum glucose, lipid, and cholesterol levels comparable to untreated diabetic rats[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
