3-Chloro-D-alanine dehydrochlorinase

3-Chloro-D-alanine dehydrochlorinase (EC 4.5.1.2) is a pyridoxal phosphate-dependent protein that cleaves the carbon-chlorine bond, releasing a chloride ion and an unstable enamine product; the latter tautomerizes to an imine form, which undergoes hydrolytic deamination to yield pyruvate and ammonia.
