Dioctyl adipate
Dioctyl adipate is an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid ester and a cold-resistant plasticizer for PVC. Dioctyl adipate disrupts the stacking of PVC molecular chains via linear aliphatic chains to achieve plasticization and low-temperature toughening effects, and it undergoes rapid and complete biodegradation under natural environmental and simulated sewage conditions. Dioctyl adipate can be used in studies related to organic synthesis.

Dioctyl adipate exhibits high elongation at break and a low glass transition temperature for cold resistance[2].
Dioctyl adipate undergoes rapid and extensive biodegradation, with a primary biodegradation rate of over 65% within 1 day in activated sludge systems, and a final degradation rate to CO2 of up to 94% within 35 days under aerobic conditions[3].

In Vivo
Dioctyl adipate exerts chronic toxicity to Daphnia magna (water flea), with the maximum acceptable toxicant concentration range of 0.024-0.052 mg/L after 21 d of exposure[3].
