The CMBL protein is a cysteine hydrolase that converts olmesartan medoxomil to its active form olmesartan, an angiotensin receptor blocker. It may also activate beta-lactam antibiotics such as faropenem etexil and renamcillin. CMBL Protein, Human (His) is the recombinant human-derived CMBL protein, expressed by E. coli , with N-His labeled tag.
The CMBL protein functions as a cysteine hydrolase, demonstrating the capability to convert the prodrug olmesartan medoxomil into its active metabolite olmerstatan, an angiotensin receptor blocker, primarily within the liver and intestine. Additionally, CMBL may play a role in the activation of beta-lactam antibiotics, such as faropenem medoxomil and lenampicillin. Its enzymatic activity is strongly inhibited by p-chloromercuribenzoate (PCMB) and partially inhibited by bis-p-nitrophenylphosphate (BNPP). Notably, CMBL remains unaffected by inhibitors such as DFP, PMSF, eserine, or EDTA.
