PTH Protein, or parathyroid hormone, raises calcium levels by dissolving bone salts and inhibiting kidney excretion. It also stimulates [1-14C]-2-deoxy-D-glucose transport and glycogen synthesis in osteoblastic cells, interacting with the PTH1R receptor and binding to its N-terminal extracellular domain for these effects. It also stimulates [1-14C]-2-deoxy-D-glucose transport and glycogen synthesis in osteoblastic cells, interacting with the PTH1R receptor and binding to its N-terminal extracellular domain for these effects. PTH, or parathyroid hormone, functions to increase calcium levels by facilitating the dissolution of bone salts and inhibiting their excretion by the kidneys. Additionally, it stimulates [1-14C]-2-deoxy-D-glucose (2DG) transport and promotes glycogen synthesis in osteoblastic cells. PTH achieves these effects through its interaction with the PTH1R receptor, specifically binding to the N-terminal extracellular domain of the receptor.
Measured by its ability to induce cAMP accumulation in MC3T3‑E1 mouse preosteoblast cells. The ED50 for this effect is 26.98 ng/mL, corresponding to a specific activity is 3.71×104 U/mg.
