(S)-Viloxazine is an orally active, blood-brain barrier penetrant norepinephrine transporter inhibitor. It also acts as a 5-HT2C receptor agonist and a 5-HT2B receptor inhibitor. (S)-Viloxazine modulates serotonergic and noradrenergic activities, blocks norepinephrine reuptake, and elevates extracellular levels of serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine in the prefrontal cortex, without inhibiting 5-HT or dopamine uptake into synaptosomes.
