Biological Activity
2,5-Diphenyloxazole (PPO; DPO; POP) (293 K, 78 K) embedded in plastic scintillator EJ-276 exhibits a first excited singlet state lifetime of 1.25 ns at 293 K and a two-component triplet state phosphorescence decay (3.61 ms and 0.63 ms) at 78 K, with photophysical properties not substantially altered compared to solvent-based DPO[1].
2,5-Diphenyloxazole (PPO; DPO; POP) (90 nM; 30 min) metabolism by phytohaemagglutinin-stimulated human peripheral lymphocytes correlates strongly (r=0.95) with benzo(a)pyrene hydroxylase activity, and benzanthracene-induced 2,5-Diphenyloxazole metabolism in these cells is inhibited by α-naphthoflavone and high concentrations of SKF 525A but not metyrapone[2].
