4-Methylumbelliferone ferulic acid ester
4-Methylumbelliferone ferulic acid ester serves as a substrate for feruloyl esterase. 4-Methylumbelliferone ferulic acid ester forms an activated aryl ester intermediate, 4-O-acetylated 4-methylumbelliferone ferulic acid ester, which is used for the synthesis of feruloyl esterase substrates.

Biological Activity
Pure deprotected ferulic acid ester is obtained in a yield of 84-91% via lipase PS-catalyzed deacetylation of 4-Methylumbelliferone ferulic acid ester (Compound 3b) (72 h; 40 °C) in i-PrOH/CH2Cl2; in contrast, chemical deacetylation with pyrrolidine causes complete hydrolysis of the ester bond[1].
