Allyl α-D-galactopyranoside is an α-galactoside and acceptor/donor substrate for transgalactosylation reactions. Allyl α-D-galactopyranoside acts as an acceptor substrate in α-galactosidase-catalyzed transgalactosylation, and serves as a donor substrate to form longer α-galactosyl-containing oligosaccharides. Allyl α-D-galactopyranoside serves as a model compound for investigating the catalytic mechanism and substrate specificity of glycoside hydrolases and glycosyltransferases.

Description

Allyl α-D-galactopyranoside is an α-galactoside and acceptor/donor substrate for transgalactosylation reactions. Allyl α-D-galactopyranoside acts as an acceptor substrate in α-galactosidase-catalyzed transgalactosylation, and serves as a donor substrate to form longer α-galactosyl-containing oligosaccharides. Allyl α-D-galactopyranoside serves as a model compound for investigating the catalytic mechanism and substrate specificity of glycoside hydrolases and glycosyltransferases[1].

In Vitro

Allyl α-D-galactopyranoside acts as a donor substrate for Aspergillus niger APC-9319 α-galactosidase-mediated self-transgalactosylation, producing three galactosylated isomers with a maximum total yield of 20% by weight of the starting allyl α-D-galactopyranoside[1].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
