Description

Beacon (47-73) is a C-terminal peptide fragment 47-73 of Beacon, and Beacon is a protein of 73 amino acid. Beacon (47-73) can be used for metabolic syndrome research[1][2].

In Vitro

A 3-h exposure to Beacon (47-73) is ineffective, but prolonged (24 and 96 h) exposures significantly lowered basal corticosterone and cortisol secretion from cultured rat and human zona fasciculata/reticularis (ZF/R) cells, respectively. Moreover, Beacon (47-73) (400 nM) counteracted the secretagogue action of 10 nM ACTH on cultured cells. The 96-h exposure to Beacon (47-73) concentration-dependently decreases basal proliferation rate of cultured cells, without inducing significant changes in the number of apoptotic and necrotic cells. Beacon (400 nM) significantly inhibits the proliferogenic effect of 10 nM Adrenomedullin[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

In Wistar rats, administration of Beacon (47-73) (3.5 nmol/100 body weight; intraperitoneal injection) elicites within 60 min a marked decrease in the plasma concentration of ACTH, aldosterone and corticosterone, and a moderate lowering of the blood levels of testosterone and estradiol[3].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
