Ceftiolene is a cephalosporin that inhibits Gram-negative bacteria. Ceftiolene binds to PBP. Ceftiolene induces bacterial lysis, autolytic activity, filamentation, and porin regulation. Ceftiolene can be used in research on bacterial infections and Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections.

In Vitro
Ceftiolene exhibits high affinity for essential PBPs, particularly PBP3 in E. coli W7 and Ent. cloacae 40345, as well as PBP1 and PBP3 in Staph. aureus 209P[2].
Ceftiolene effectively induces filamentation in E. coli W7, Ent. cloacae 40345, and Pr. mirabilis A223 at low concentrations[2].
Ceftiolene is highly effective in inducing lysis of Ent. cloacae 4041, K. pneumoniae K2, and E. coli Cla, with activity comparable or superior to other third-generation cephalosporins, although an inoculum effect exists for its activity against E. coli Cla/TEM-2[2].
Ceftiolene effectively triggers autolytic activity in E. coli W7, resulting in significant release of labeled peptidoglycan[2].
