Biological Activity
N-propionyl-L-cysteine functions as a reliable internal standard for HPLC-UV quantification of N-acetylcysteine in human plasma[1].
N-Propionyl-L-cysteine is synthesized in vitro by Pseudomonas chlororaphis B23 acyl-CoA synthetase (AcsA) from propionate and L-cysteine, with ATP and MgCl2 present[2].
