ABCA1 Protein, Human (HEK293, His, StrepII, FLAG)
Based on 1 Customer Validation
The ABCA1 protein catalyzes the translocation of specific phospholipids from the cytoplasm to the extracellular/luminal membrane leaflet in response to ATP hydrolysis. It achieves phospholipid translocation by forcing phospholipids through its channels and loops into elongated hydrophobic tunnels in its extracellular domain. ABCA1 Protein, Human (HEK293, His, StrepⅡ, FLAG) is the recombinant human-derived ABCA1 protein, expressed by HEK293 , with N-StrepⅡ, C-Flag, N-8*His labeled tag.

Background
ABCA1 protein functions as a crucial catalyst in the translocation of specific phospholipids from the cytoplasmic to the extracellular/lumenal leaflet of the membrane, a process driven by ATP hydrolysis. This activity is integral to the transfer of phospholipids to apolipoproteins, leading to the formation of nascent high-density lipoproteins (HDLs). ABCA1 exhibits a preference for transporting phosphatidylcholine over phosphatidylserine and may play a similar role in the efflux of intracellular cholesterol to apolipoproteins, contributing to the generation of nascent HDLs. The mechanism involves the translocation of phospholipids from the outer face of the plasma membrane, forcing them through its gateway and annulus into an elongated hydrophobic tunnel in its extracellular domain. This intricate process is essential for the regulation of lipid homeostasis and the maintenance of cellular and systemic lipid balance.
