Background
ARHGEF7 acts as a RAC1 guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) and induces membrane ruffling. It functions in cell migration, attachment, and spreading, promoting RAC1 targeting to focal adhesions (by similar). Additionally, ARHGEF7 may serve as a positive regulator of apoptosis. Downstream of NMDA receptors and the CaMKK-CaMK1 signaling cascade, it facilitates spine and synapse formation in hippocampal neurons.
