Biological Activity
Description
CHT Protein, Human (HEK293, Strep, His) is the recombinant human-derived CHT, expressed by HEK293 , with Strep, His labeled tag.
Background
CHT is a high-affinity Na(+)-coupled choline transmembrane symporter that functions as an electrogenic, voltage-dependent transporter with variable charge/choline stoichiometry. Choline uptake and choline-induced current are Cl(-)-dependent, where Cl(-) likely acts as a regulatory ion rather than a cotransported ion. It plays a critical role in acetylcholine (ACh) synthesis by transporting choline from the synaptic cleft into presynaptic nerve terminals. SLC5A7/CHT1-mediated high-affinity choline transport in cholinergic neurons is the rate-limiting step for ACh production, facilitating subsequent action potential transmission. CHT is predominantly localized in presynaptic terminal intracellular organelles and translocates to the plasma membrane in its active form in response to neuronal activity.
