Biological Activity
Description
Esterase D/FGH Protein, Human (His) is the recombinant human-derived Esterase D/FGH protein, expressed by E. coli, with C-6*His labeled tag.
Background
S-formylglutathione hydrolase plays a key role in the detoxification of formaldehyde in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, catalyzing the hydrolysis of S-formylglutathione to formic acid and glutathione. ESD encodes a serine hydrolase belonging to the esterase D family. The encoded enzyme is active against many substrates, including O-acetylated sialic acid, and may be involved in the recycling of sialic acid. It is also used as a genetic marker for retinoblastoma and Wilson's disease. ESD can promote its interaction with metallothionein 2A (MT2A), reduce MT2A protein levels, resulting in upregulation of free zinc ion concentration, and inhibit the migration of A549 lung cancer cells in vitro[1][2][3].
