Description

GAT1 Protein, Human (HEK293) is the recombinant human-derived GAT1, expressed by HEK293 , with tag Free labeled tag.

Background

GAT1 mediates the transport of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) along with sodium and chloride ions, primarily responsible for GABA reuptake from the synaptic cleft (PubMed:30132828). However, GABA translocation may also occur in the reverse direction, leading to GABA release (By similarity). The direction and magnitude of GABA transport depend on thermodynamic conditions, influenced by membrane potential and intracellular/extracellular concentrations of Na(+), Cl(-), and GABA (By similarity). Additionally, GAT1 can facilitate sodium- and chloride-dependent hypotaurine transport, though with significantly lower efficiency compared to GABA (By similarity).
