Distinguished from other paramyxovirus attachment proteins, the glycoprotein lacks both neuraminidase and hemagglutinating activities. Its unique features enable the virus to evade antibody-dependent restriction of replication by functioning as an antigen decoy and modulating the activity of leukocytes carrying Fc-gamma receptors.
