Biological Activity
GRM2 Protein, Human (sf9, His) is the recombinant human-derived GRM2, expressed by sf9 insect cells , with His labeled tag.
GRM2 is a dimeric G protein-coupled receptor activated by the excitatory neurotransmitter L-glutamate. It plays critical roles in modulating synaptic transmission and neuronal excitability. Upon glutamate activation, GRM2 inhibits presynaptic calcium channels, reducing further glutamate release and dampening excitatory signaling (by similar). Mechanistically, ligand binding induces a conformational change that triggers G protein-mediated signaling and modulates downstream effectors such as adenylate cyclase. Additionally, GRM2 may mediate neurotransmission suppression or participate in synaptogenesis and synaptic stabilization. In microbial infections, GRM2 facilitates influenza virus internalization and serves as a host entry factor for rabies virus and SARS-CoV-2, which hijack its endocytosis pathway for cellular entry.
