Hepcidin/HAMP Protein, Human (GST)

Cat. No.: HY-P70400
COA Handling Instructions

The hepcidin/HAMP protein is a liver-produced hormone that is a major circulating regulator of iron absorption and distribution. It promotes endocytosis and degradation of ferroportin/SLC40A1, retaining iron within cells and reducing plasma iron flux. Hepcidin/HAMP Protein, Human (GST) is the recombinant human-derived Hepcidin/HAMP protein, expressed by E. coli , with N-GST labeled tag. The total length of Hepcidin/HAMP Protein, Human (GST) is 25 a.a., with molecular weight of 28-30 kDa.

Background

Hepcidin, a liver-produced hormone, serves as the principal circulating regulator of iron absorption and distribution throughout the body. Its regulatory mechanism involves promoting the endocytosis and degradation of ferroportin/SLC40A1, resulting in the retention of iron within iron-exporting cells and a reduction in the flow of iron into the plasma. Hepcidin governs crucial iron fluxes into the bloodstream, including the absorption of dietary iron in the intestine, the recycling of iron by macrophages through phagocytosis of aging erythrocytes and other cells, and the mobilization of stored iron from hepatocytes. Additionally, hepcidin exhibits robust antimicrobial activity against various bacteria, including E.coli ML35P, N.cinerea, S.epidermidis, S.aureus, and group B streptococcus, as well as moderate activity against the fungus C.albicans, while showing no efficacy against P.aeruginosa.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.

  • Specific Activity Calculator

The reconstitution calculator equation

Volume (to add to vial) = Mass (in vial) ÷ Desired Reconstitution Concentration

Volume (to add to vial) = Mass (in vial) ÷ Desired Reconstitution Concentration
= ÷

The dilution calculator equation

Concentration (start) × Volume (start) = Concentration (final) × Volume (final)

This equation is commonly abbreviated as: C1V1 = C2V2

Concentration (start) × Volume (start) = Concentration (final) × Volume (final)
× = ×
C1   V1   C2   V2

The specific activity calculator equation

Specific Activity (Unit/mg) = 106 ÷ Biological Activity (ED50)

Specific Activity (Unit/mg) = 106 ÷ Biological Activity (ED50)
Unit/mg = 106 ÷ ng/mL
