Biological Activity

Description

HK2 Protein, Mouse (sf9, His) is the recombinant mouse-derived HK2 protein, expressed by Sf9 insect cells, with C-His tag.

Background

HK2 catalyzes the phosphorylation of hexoses, such as D-glucose and D-fructose, into hexose 6-phosphates (D-glucose 6-phosphate and D-fructose 6-phosphate, respectively) (By similarity). It mediates the initial step of glycolysis by phosphorylating D-glucose to D-glucose 6-phosphate (By similarity). Additionally, HK2 plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the outer mitochondrial membrane by preventing the release of apoptogenic molecules from the intermembrane space and subsequent apoptosis.
