It has a retention time of 34.95 min, characteristic mass spectral fragments, and a maximum ultraviolet absorption wavelength of 288 nm^[1].
Salvianolic acid L (compound 1) scavenges superoxide anion radicals generated by the xanthine/xanthine oxidase system, with an SOD-equivalent activity of 300 units/mg^[2].
