Methylthiophene-2-carboxylic acid can permeate into P. aeruginosa and affect 2,4-dihydroxyquinoline (DHQ) levels to a similar extent as deletion of the PqsE gene. 3-Methylthiophene-2-carboxylic acid can be used for cystic fibrosis research .
