5-Bromo-5-nitro-1,3-dioxane
Based on 1 Customer Validation
5-Bromo-5-nitro-1,3-dioxane is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent active against Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and fungi. 5-Bromo-5-nitro-1,3-dioxane oxidizes free thiol groups to their corresponding disulfides. 5-Bromo-5-nitro-1,3-dioxane induces intracellular substance leakage in Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. 5-Bromo-5-nitro-1,3-dioxane modulates the oxygen consumption of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

Biological Activity
5-Bromo-5-nitro-1,3-dioxane (Bronidox) (2-1500 μg/mL; 1 d (bacteria/yeast); 5 d (fungus)) inhibits growth of gram-positive bacteria (including B. cereus, B. licheniformis, S. aureus) at 15.6-31.2 μg/mL, gram-negative bacteria (including E. coli, P. vulgaris) at 31.2-62.5 μg/mL, yeasts (including C. albicans, S. cerevisiae) at 62.5 μg/mL, and the fungus A. niger at 250 μg/mL[1].
Bronidox (31-200 μg/mL; up to 100 min) induces concentration-dependent leakage of intracellular material from E. coli and S. aureus cells, with E. coli exhibiting greater leakage than S. aureus[1].
Bronidox (31-200 μg/mL; up to 2 h) stimulates then rapidly inhibits oxygen consumption in S. aureus, and causes progressive, partial inhibition of oxygen consumption in E. coli[1].
Bronidox (31 μg/mL; up to 15 min post-addition) causes transient inhibition of 3H-uridine uptake in E. coli but persistent reduction of 3H-uridine incorporation to ~37% of control levels in S. aureus[1].
Bronidox (10-100 μg/mL) inhibits the thiol-containing enzyme papain by ~80% at 50-100 μg/mL, weakly inhibits pepsin by ~30-38% at 80-100 μg/mL, and has minimal inhibitory effect on trypsin at 10-100 μg/mL[1].
