Background

Function
CD8 (Cluster of Differentiation 8) is a co-receptor protein within the immune system, primarily found on the surface of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) . CD8 recognizes and firmly binds to MHC class I molecules on the surface of cells infected by viruses or transformed into cancer cells. When the T-cell receptor (TCR) recognizes an antigen, CD8 facilitates stable binding and signal transduction, thereby activating the T cell to act directly upon the target cell[1].
