Background

Function：May provide a mechanism for modulation of the composition of the protective mucus layer related to acid secretion or the presence of bacteria and noxious agents in the lumen. Plays an important role in the cytoprotection of epithelial surfaces and are used as tumor markers in a variety of cancers. May play a role in epithelial organogenesis

Expression：
Tissue_specificity:It is expressed in the regeneration zone of the gastric antrum, the mucosa of the gastric body, and the mucosa of the gastric notch. It is also expressed in the deep mucous glands of the gastric antrum. It is overexpressed in gastric epithelium infected with Helicobacter pylori. It is highly expressed in the Brenner's glands of the duodenum, gallbladder, seminal vesicle, central cells and ducts of the pancreatic acinar, and glands surrounding the common bile duct.

Induction:Up-regulated by NFKB1. Repressed by mithramycin A which is an inhibitor of binding of transcription factors
