Background
-
Function
Sarcoma antigen 1 (SAGE1) is a cancer/testis antigen, primarily highly expressed in testicular spermatogonia, and also expressed in a few tissues such as the pituitary gland and gonads. SAGE1 is abnormally activated and overexpressed in various malignant tumors, including sarcoma, lung cancer, bladder cancer, and head and neck cancer. Its abnormal activation is associated with tumor progression, invasiveness, and poor prognosis. SAGE1 promotes homologous recombination repair (HR) while inhibiting non-homologous end joining (NHE), shifting DNA double-strand break (DSB) repair toward the more precise HR pathway, thereby reducing mutations[1].
