Phytoene desaturase-IN-4
Phytoene desaturase-IN-4 is a phytoene desaturase (PDS) inhibitor with a Kd value of 76 μM against Synechococcus PDS. Phytoene desaturase-IN-4 interacts with PDS via the Arg195 residue, disrupts carotenoid biosynthesis, induces the accumulation of 15-cis-phytoene, and reduces carotenoid and chlorophyll levels. Phytoene desaturase-IN-4 acts as both an inducer and an inhibitor, exhibits herbicidal activity against Portulaca oleracea, and shows higher safety toward non-target organisms. Phytoene desaturase-IN-4 can be used as a herbicide.

Biological Activity
Description
In Vitro
Phytoene desaturase-IN-4 (16c) (active ingredient 150-300 g/ha; 21 days after application) potently inhibits the growth of Abutilon theophrasti, Amaranthus retroflexus, Portulaca oleracea, Eleusine indica, Setaria viridis and Echinochloa crus-galli when applied post-emergence and pre-emergence[1].
Phytoene desaturase-IN-4 (active ingredient 200 g/ha) shows high safety to maize, soybean, cotton, wheat, sorghum and peanut. When applied pre-emergence or post-emergence at a dose of 200 g a.i./ha, the observed inhibition rate is ≤10%[1].
Phytoene desaturase-IN-4 (active ingredient at 200 g/ha; 7 days of treatment) effectively inhibits phytoene desaturase activity in tobacco leaves, causes accumulation of 15-cis-phytoene, and exerts over 80% inhibitory effect on the biosynthesis of chlorophyll and carotenoids[1].
Phytoene desaturase-IN-4 (variable concentration; 5 min) binds to wild-type Synechocystis phytoene desaturase with a Kd value of 76 μM[1].
