Biological Activity: Phytoene desaturase-IN-4 is a phytoene desaturase (PDS) inhibitor with a Kd value of 76 μM against Synechococcus PDS. Phytoene desaturase-IN-4 interacts with PDS via the Arg195 residue, disrupts carotenoid biosynthesis, induces the accumulation of 15-cis-phytoene, and reduces carotenoid and chlorophyll levels. Phytoene desaturase-IN-4 acts as both an inducer and an inhibitor, exhibits herbicidal activity against Portulaca oleracea, and shows higher safety toward non-target organisms. Phytoene desaturase-IN-4 can be used as a herbicide[1].
