Pyridine-3-sulfonyl chloride is a sulfonyl chlorination derivatization reagent for steroidal estrogens. Pyridine-3-sulfonyl chloride reacts with estrogens to form pyridine-3-sulfonyl derivatives, which generate abundant analyte-specific fragment ions upon collision-induced dissociation. Pyridine-3-sulfonyl chloride facilitates quantitative LC-ESI-MS/MS analysis of estrogens in serum and water matrices.

Biological Activity
Pyridine-3-sulfonyl chloride (1.0 mg/mL; 15 min at 60 °C) enhances ionization of steroidal estrogens for LC-ESI-MS/MS, produces analyte-specific fragment ions useful for structural identification, and enables quantitative analysis of 17β-estradiol in charcoal-stripped fetal bovine serum with a lower limit of quantitation of 10 pg/mL[1].
Pyridine-3-sulfonyl chloride (1 mg/mL) derivatizes E1, E2, E3, and EE2 in aqueous matrices with high efficiency, generating specific, high-intensity product ions that enable sensitive and selective UHPLC-ESI-MS/MS quantification, with limits of quantification ranging from 0.098 ng/L (EE2) to 2.73 ng/L (E3) in surface water using the optimized method[2].
