Description

Pyrroline-5-carboxylate is a key intermediate in proline anabolism and catabolism. Pyrroline-5-carboxylate plays important roles in plant defense against pathogen invasion, as well as in redox regulation, nucleotide synthesis and other processes in animal cells[1][2].

In Vitro

Sodium pyrroline-5-carboxylate (0.3-3.0 mM; 1 hour) activates the pentose phosphate pathway in normal human fibroblasts, LLC-RK1 cells and human erythrocytes[1].
Sodium pyrroline-5-carboxylate (1 μM-0.5 mM; 1 hour) increases the level of phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate in human red blood cells[1].
Sodium pyrroline-5-carboxylate (0.5 mM; up to 4 hours) increases the level of PP-ribose-P in serum-starved quiescent human fibroblasts in a time-dependent manner[1].
