Functionally, it is known to be active on the cell surface. The protein is expressed in multiple tissues, including the brain, gut, limb, musculature, and ventral grey horn. In humans, mutations in the orthologous gene CLEC7A have been implicated in aspergillosis and chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis, suggesting its importance in immune defense against these conditions (Alliance of Genome Resources.April 2022). Moreover, the Dectin-1/CLEC7A protein shows broad expression across various tissues, including the lung (RPKM 2.7), bladder (RPKM 1.9), and 16 other tissues.
