Background

Fibroblast growth factor 21 is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members have a wide range of mitotic and cell survival activities and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth, and invasion. FGF21 is a hepatic factor, a hormone secreted by the liver that signals through FGF21 receptors in the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus to regulate monosaccharide intake and preference for sweets and is associated with reduced dopamine neurotransmission within the nucleus accumbens. FGF21 promotes progression of non-small cell lung cancer by activating the SIRT1/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway[1][2][3][4].
